Empirical Matrix
About 2 min read
A research agenda for deciding which Matrix distinctions are consequential enough to survive measurement, prediction, diagnosis, intervention, and model competition.
Priority hypotheses
HDS — Disagreement Shape
Different disagreement structures should respond differently to matched interventions. The critical test is a structure × intervention interaction rather than simple agreement improvement.
Hm/X̂ — Manifestation / Representation Dissociation
What reaches a participant and what the participant represents should sometimes make separable contributions to later judgment or action.
Hℋ — Real / Represented Action Horizon
Actually feasible possibilities and represented possibilities should dissociate, and structural versus informational interventions should have different effects.
HG — Governing Relations
Context-sensitive relations among commitments may add information beyond flat values, ranked values, standard goal hierarchies, or control-reference models under genuine conflict.
H4A — Four Affections
The SBRG decomposition should compete against SBR, SBRG+Emotion, SBRG+Sociality, and empirically learned alternatives.
H𝓜 — Manifestation Trajectory
Order, timing, and context of participant-relative manifestations should add predictive value beyond cumulative exposure when sequence matters.
Hρ — Receptivity
Reduced fixation with alternative availability preserved should behave differently from distraction, disengagement, or simple low fixation.
Failure discipline
Utility can include prediction, diagnosis, intervention, compression, or transfer. A distinction that repeatedly fails to add value should be merged, restricted, or demoted rather than protected by vocabulary.
Evidence ladder
conceptual non-identity → separable measurement → predictive non-redundancy → diagnostic non-equivalence → intervention non-equivalence → transfer across domains
Permanent methodological rules
Model Competition. Compare differentiated models against simpler alternatives.
Complexity Discipline. New constructs must earn parameters.
Revision. Failed distinctions are collapsible.
Transfer. Cross-domain claims require cross-domain performance.
Metaphysical Firewall. Empirical success of a proxy does not establish a metaphysical referent.
Provenance registry
The archive should preserve not only successful constructs but a graveyard of rejected or demoted ones so the framework cannot silently rewrite its history.
